I share this desire. Also mouse click events (and the already existing
authoring help should also be able to be passed as events).

It means we pass the name of a JavaScript function (with parameters defined
by Helmut) to the viewer, which then calls these functions when the events
occur. Also a way to query the present view (x/y of center, and zoom level).

Helmut, this is easy to implement, and will make the viewer fit for all
kinds of external add-ons.

This would require imbedding a font (if you want to keep it
platform-independent). The applet would grow too much in size. Now it's
beautiful because it's so small.

It would anyway have to reinitialise. You don't save much, the applet is in
your browser's cache (if you use the "codebase" parameter).

I would rather be able to change the size of the viewer window without
having to reload the image, but I have no suggestions if and how that would
be possible.
