Doug,

The Mac-version of PTSTitcher and all other PT.. programs support
48bit color in tiff and png images, but not the Photoshop plug-in
and any of the PC-versions.

It was a major code change but I couldn't do much testing since my
own scanner delivers just 24bit images. There is some risk of
undetected bugs, although I didn't get any reports so far.

Using 48bit images for processing and stitching preserves the full quality
of your images through the whole process. Only the last step should be
used to reduce dynamic range or compress the image. However, this makes sense
only if you use one of the available 48bit output formats (psd, tiff, png).
Any other format (jpg etc, also PSD_mask and PSD_nomask !) reduces bitdepth
to 8bits.

Disadvantage is filesize, and the lack of 48bit support in multilayer
PSD-files, although single layer works.

Regards

Helmut
