proj-imim: More on Hotspots Siegfried Karpf 2000-May-31 12:15:12
With high interest I follow the debate on Helmut´s fantastic programs
PTViewer and PTools from its beginning.
Now I have a question and an opinion on the hotspot topic.

I tried to open a new_window with fixed size from a hotspot in a pano, doing
this:
.....
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
function MM_openBrWindow(theURL,winName,features) { //v2.0
  window.open(theURL,winName,features);
}
.....
<PARAM name=hotspot0	value=" x104 y336 cff0000 n'mountain view'
u'href="#"'onClick="MM_openBrWindow('details.htm','zoom_view','scrollbars=ye
s,resizable=yes,width=495,height=590')'">
.....

Every possibility I tried, didn´t work. Is this feature anyway supported?
Could anyone help me?

You are interested, why I try to realize the
"hotspot_clicknewwindow_fixedsize" option. I will tell you the reasons.
Virtual Tours through several panos are great and very impessive - and
should be the base for further information - made possible by hotspots.
I think, we must give the user more information and interactivity on the
single pano to enlarge attractivity and to compensate the mostly immensive
loading times. I don`t know, what you think, but when I have loaded a new
pano on the screen (and when I try to see it as a regular user!), I am
interested in a lot of things - where I am?, what do I see?, how some things
might look on the panorama in detail? what might be the sound at this place
and so on. It´s like in real live, you reach a place, turn around and then
your eyes focus on details, you are interested in. And while you focus that
things, in that moment you have no panoramic impession, that´s a still !
This kind of cognition of the environment we should try to comunicate in
our panos. We should try to generate a integrated experience. For that I see
the first choice in hotspots and separat windows (smaller than the original
browser window. with their own close_button). The user doesn´t loose the
contact to the pano (he can see it in the background) and he receives more
information like (perhaps labeled) zoomviews (more rapid than the
mgi-zoomserver), maps, descriptions and so on. All that stuff we can deliver
in an acceptable loading time. After that, the user will skip satisfied to
the next pano on the virtual tour. A lot of facilities - and the
disadvantage? (exept those you hopefully will tell me): I can´t create a
demo because I don´t know the correct code. I hope a specialist out there
can help me.

By the way, is it possible to add an <alt> text to a hotspot?
