proj-imim: PTViewer example of MF camera pano Peter Murphy 2000-Apr-30 06:21:16
Here is a test pano with PTViewer (270K, 800*1600).
http://www.culture.com.au/virtual/pano2.htm
I shot this
yesterday - with four handheld shots with my homebuilt medium
format camera - a 24mm Mamiya fisheye on 120 film - this gives
130 by 185 degrees on 6 by 9cm format film. The more than 180
coverage vertically means you can get away with handheld shooting
and not miss nadir/zenith detail. With a 180deg or less system I often
tilt up or down a bit with handheld shots to ensure covering
important nadir or zenith detail
and then fabricate any missing bit (btw I scanned these MF negs
with the Minolta Multiscan scanner which is OK but not great - this
scanner is
discounted now quite a lot - maybe there will be an ICE version soon
like the Elite 35mm Minolta scanner). Scene contrast handling is
better than digital but otherwise I think I prefer the D1 - I gotta get
my own!
Panorama Tools Optimizer worked ok with these negs - I use a
circular selection to find the circle for the first image, save that as
a path and drag it into the new images, convert to selection, copy and
paste into a new square image to
define the image circles repeatably for the successive images

The finished pano was tilted quite a bit - obviously the pitch and
roll of the first image should have been non-zero. So I
corrected the final PSphere with the Adjust tool - a pitch of about
5 degrees turned out to be about right

Helmut - there is a bug with PSphere to PSphere conversion with the
current Adjust tool with Windows. A version back one or two was
OK The image ends up non-wrapping and
there are "dotty" artefacts - works fine on Mac Adjust tool
though so I have to do my unlevelness correcting on the mac
