PanoTools:
Ultrawide comparisons - Canon 10-22, Sigma 10-20, Tamron 11-18
Roger Howard 2005-Sep-13 04:13:04
I'm looking at getting an ultrawide lens for my 20D (and, ideally,
the 10D backup) and I just saw the Tamron 11-18 at Samy's Camera
tonight - I had never heard of this lens. Not having a Canon or Sigma
equivalent on hand I couldn't do any direct comparisons, so I'm
wondering if any of you have any comparative experience.
Obviously, the Canon 10-22 won't work with my 10D - point against it.
But it's a stop faster, though I doubt I'd often use it wide open as
this will primarily be for panoramas.
I haven't worked with the Sigma but the Tamron felt a little
plasticky for my taste, whereas all my Sigma lenses have always been
quite solid feeling.
Any feedback on these lenses, especially the Sigma and Tamron, would
be quite appreciated. The Canon is more expensive, and a more known
quantity for me (I've worked with it).
Best,
Roger
