Peter,

I am using exactly the method that the LivePicture applet uses.
And the plug-in solutions (pressing one key alone to initiate zooming)
don't work under java for two reasons:
- pressing shift/ctrl is not reported unless some other event
  (mousedown) is happening.
- other keys are reported but are repeated, which make them useless.
The only other solution would be to have separate mouse modes,
one for zooming and one for panning, again like LP. Generally, modes
are more confusing.

but looks quite bad for the equirectangular projection used
by PTViewer. You will notice this when looking at the raw
panoramic image, which usually looks quite pleasing in the
cylindrical qtvr format, and unnatural in the PTViewer format.
