PanoTools:
PTGui 5 beta 2 temp files

Hi! I am a registered user of PTGui 4.x and have installed the v5
beta 2. (I'm using Windows XP SP2 with 1GB RAM, 3GHz processor.) I
was trying it out by stitching a 36 frame (3 rows x 12) pano: each
image is over 3 MB, which would create a huge file if I output it
full size. I wanted to output this as a a single .jpg file.
In the Options > "files and paths" dialog, there is an option for
a "temp" folder. On my previous attempts, I got the "out of disk
space" error, then remembered this and set it to a different
partition than the one it was installed on (my "C:" windows
partition). This partition has over 9GB of space.
Before I set it, PTGui was creating a temporary .pts file in
the "temp" folder of my user profile, and putting all the
other "image" temp files (all 36 of them) in that same folder. When I
set it to the empty 9GB partition, it created the temporary .pts file
in the new location - however the temporary image files were still
being written to my user profile "temp" folder on "C:".
I seem to remember that the last 4.x version did change where these
temp image files were created when you set this path. Is this a bug,
or is there something I forgot to do? I don't have much room on my C:
drive, and I certainly can't output the pano as big as I want to
without getting the "out of disk space" error!
BTW, version 5.0 looks outstanding...I was very impressed how quickly
I was able to get the pano stitched! It spent a *lot* less time to
fine-tuning the pano before getting ready to create it...although I
would still like to compare using "smartblend" vs. PTGui's blending.
Thanks so much for the new version!
