You are right, the helmet is not round but I think it is flatten on ears.
(not sure of my english...)

NASA published a photo of the spacewalk on the shuttle recently, showing 
the reflection in the astronaut's visor.

For a bit of fun, I thought this was basically a mirrorball shot, so did 
a bit of flipping around, and turned it into a partial VR giving an 
astronaut's eye view of the spacewalk.

It's not perfect, there is distortion around the edges - I don't know if 
this is a flaw in my method, or because NASA's helmets aren't perfectly 
spherical!
