PanoTools: Re: Panotools or Realviz stitcher ? zzyzxx_x 2005-Sep-11 17:36:12
Andrew

I started a similar thread a while back. It really didn't go
anywhere, so I decided I'd try both PTGui(v4) and Stitcher(v4),
side-by-side, to see for myself.

Now I use PTGui for printable panos, and Stitcher for my 360x180 QTVR's.

PTGui has a lot of really nice features. However, it's NOT
user-friendly. It's got a pretty steep learning curve to it. The
parts and pieces are scattered all over the web, and it's up to you to
figure out which piece goes where and how to make it all work
together. There are many different versions of the bits and pieces
around, sometimes it's difficult to know it you have the correct
(latest) version of any of the parts. Unfortunately, there isn't (I
have not been able to find) a single repository of information and
instruction and programs to simplify PTGui and PTools.

Stitcher is a wonderful, easy-to-use program. Stitcher has many, not
so obvious options (advanced options) if you want to tweak or fine
tune your QTVRs. The results are equal to, or better than, PTGui, in
all respects. However, as you note, it does cost a bunch. I think
it's money well spent. (Think about what your time is actually worth!)

Hope that helps.
