PanoTools: Brocap_D improvement Yuval Levy 2006-Mar-05 21:23:21
Thank you all for the feedback to Brocap_D and for the rest of the not directly related though very interesting discussions about usability, user plug-in choice, personal plug-in order preference, etc.

The Brocap_D detection server has been improved for clients with JavaScript disabled. This includes search engines (although it is still recommended to modify the reference implementation so that it does not request a detection test in case of a search engine).

Now, when a client without JavaScript is sent to the server for detection, it displays a link that brings him back to the originating site with "zero detection", i.e. the Brocap_D server reports that it was not able to identify any of the selected plug ins.

This is the list of panorama-related plugins that Brocap_D currently identifies:
- Sun and Microsoft Java
- Apple QuickTime
- Macromedia Shockwave
- Macromedia Flash (including compatible Linux GPL flash)
- Adobe SVG-Viewer
- GLPanoviewer
- Zoomify
- PangeaVR
- DevalVR
- VolumePhotoViewer
- iPix (plug in version - the java applet is recognized with the Java plug in, as are other panoramic java applets such as ptviewer and Immervision G2)

Moreover, the following plug-ins that are not (yet) directly panorama related are identified:
- Adobe Acrobat Viewer
- Microsoft Windows Media Player (including the alternative Linux WMP and OSX flip4mac compatible plug-ins)
- RealPlayer

There were no significant bugs with the detection server.

We found out at austria-360.at that the reference implementation requires PHP to have access to the net (to test if the Brocap_D server is alive). We are still working closely with the webmaster of austria-360.at to identify the configuration settings that need to be changed for Birdcap to work there. In the meantime it works flawlessly at <http://www.dativ.at/fotos/panoramas/index.html> - just click on a thumbnail of a panorama that is indicated to be available in both QTVR and SPi-V to see it in action.

have a good week!
Yuv
