Sorry for the delay in responding to all those who responded and contributed
to this interesting thread.
In particular the issue of wasted pixels with the full frame chip and 8mm
lens was very useful. The 15mm makes more sense, plus it can be pressed into
use for other work too.
The jury is out on the software and pano-head, but at least I now have a
short list.
For final projection of a full screen pano, is Quicktime Pro needed for
creation of the final file? I had an early version, but upgrading to 7.0
means I'll need to buy an upgrade for Pro. No big deal, as it's only a few
quid.
